Diving

The Maltese Islands together with the Blue Lagoon in Comino form a very special diving site right in the heart of the Mediterranean, a site which is easily accessible and remarked well-preserved. With their natural harbours and little bays, sheltered creeks, cliffs and reefs, the islands invite you to explore an underwater world of diving sites, a stone’s throw away from one another.
With excellent visibility, often as far down as 30 metres, one can enjoy an astonishing underwater universe – a canvas of caverns and crevices teeming with life.
Although it is difficult to list all the different species of flora and fauna which proliferate in these crystal clear waters, it is important to know that they are all harmless to man.The risk of meeting a huge fish is almost non-existent. in the course of the dives one is likely to encounter groupers, flying fish, gurnards, red mullet, octopus or even sea perch, which has almost disappeared from the Mediterranean. Apart from its many fascinating natural sites, Malta has several submerged ships and planes very close to the shore. These wrecks have become the breeding grounds of a number of species.
A few of these wrecks, particularly the one close to the Malta-Gozo landing quay is very accessible.
Malta is dream for underwater photography. The extraordinary clarity of its deep waters is ideal for the observation of marine life. Flamboyant natural colours, particularly shades of red and orange, can be captured on film without the use of flash even at depth of 10-12 metres. For more excitement a night dive will help you discover much more .Colours appear more vivid by torchlight, moray eels sometimes venture out of their hideout. A unique experience, certainly worth trying and one which most accredited diving schools include in their programme. The majority of all diving schools belong to the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and offer excellent quality, first-class equipment and reliability. Through their strict adherence to international safety regulations, they spare no effort to give all divers, whether beginners, the advice and assistance necessary to make their stay problem-free.
